Mirchi Bajji🌶 ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ ಬಜ್ಜಿ 🌶 मिर्ची भजिया | Hot Spicy & Tangy | 🌶 Street Style At Home!

Mirchi Bajji is one of the most loved tea-time snacks. It can be prepared differently for different occasions... This particular recipe is from my grandfather who made these fritters with hot and spicy chilies back in the '90s and they were the best !! After trying & testing several combinations to get that crispy fritters I realized what made it really tasty was the fact that it was made from scratch and homegrown chilies were an additional plus point. I recently came up with this recipe where we not only use tamarind to marinate the chilies but, also use the same bowl to make the besan batter so that the flavors from the marinated chilies get into the batter.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • Banana Peppers / Bell Peppers / Chillies
  • Salt & Tamarind

To Make Batter

  • ¾ th cup Water
  • Asafoetida / Hing
  • Turmeric powder / Haldi
  • Red Chilly Powder
  • ¼ tsp Ajwain / Carom Seeds
  • 2 cup Gram Flour / Besan
  • 2 tbsp Rice Flour
  • ¼ tsp Baking Soda
  • Salt as per taste
  • oil for frying

Instructions

Take Capsicum / Bell Peppers

Take Banana Peppers / Mirchi Bajji Chillies

Cut them half and then in long shape. Put salt and tamarind juice and mix nicely to coat the chilies

To Make The Batter:

Add salt, hing(asafoetida), turmeric, red chilly powder, ajwain in water. Sieve the flours and make a lump-free batter

When you are about to make fritters add little baking soda and mix with the batter

Meanwhile heat the oil kadai and check for hotness

Dip the chilies one by one in the batter and then fry in hot oil on medium flame.

keeping the flame on medium, flip over and fry all the sides evenly.

Fry until the bajjis turn crisp and golden brown

Enjoy this hot spicy and tangy street style bajjis at home ( if its home grown, the taste would be even better!)

Notes

  • Sometimes the chilies can be over spicy and too hot to handle, just cut them and put salt and lots of thick tamarind juice and cover, put a stone/weight on the plate to release juice and leave for some hours or at least an hour.
  • This helps in reducing the hotness of chilies and even tastes tangy which will balance the overall flavor.
  • Don't put baking soda to the batter and keep for long, otherwise, the fritters won't be crispy enough!
  • Use the bowl used to marinate chilies to prepare the batter for those flavors released from chilies.
  • The batter should be thick enough to hold onto the chilies but not too thick or runny!
