Aliv / Halim / Garden Cress Seeds are one of the top Indian Superfoods. Just as the winter arrives, the aliv seeds enter my kitchen. At the time I was breastfeeding my twins, I always loved making Aliv Kheer/Aliv Paysu. It helped me a lot during that time. I could see a lot of benefits from consuming this superfood. Few of them I have listed below:
- Best for breastmilk Production. It boosts the production of breast milk. It contains a high amount of iron, protein, folate which are necessary for breastfeeding mothers.
- Treats constipation & stimulates gastrointestinal function.
- Aliv seeds are very useful in treating menstrual cycle disorders.
- Helps to lose weight & good for hair & skin.
- Improves hemoglobin and helps to treat Anemia.
- Boosts immune system.
With so many benefits especially for the winter, this laddu tops my list of healthy food options for winter. Have one laddu per day and see notes on how to store it. Consuming these seeds in large amounts per day is not recommended.
🌸 Please Note: If you are EXPECTING or PREGNANT, consuming ALIV seeds is NOT RECOMMENDED 🌸

Pre preparations:-
1. Soak Aliv Seeds in coconut water or normal water for at least an hour. The seeds will expand after soaking all water and become like a gel.
2. Grate fresh coconut, Powder the jaggery and keep aside.
3. Cut dry fruits into bite-size pieces and keep them aside.
To Prepare Laddu Mixture:-
- Take a heavy bottom pan and add 2 big spoons full of ghee. Let it melt on medium-low flame.
- Now add Powdered Jaggery and let it melt with ghee. Keep mixing so that jaggery doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan.
- Once jaggery melts add in the soaked aliv seeds with the soaked water. Mix on medium flame.
- Then add freshly grated coconut and mix. This mixture must be cooked till there is no moisture content. So keep stirring it until it turns thick.
- In the end, add dry fruit pieces, cardamom & nutmeg powder. Mix for 2 minutes.
- Switch off the flame and let it cool down.
- After it cools down a bit, start to make round balls of the mixture.
